The Capture Fisheries Department in 2024 received four research grants from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Universitas Diponegoro. One of them, led by Dr. Abdul Kohar Mudzakir, includes members such as Faik Kurahman S.Pi, M.Si, Dr. Trisnani Dwi Hapsari, S.Pi, M.Si, and Kukuh Eko Prihantoko, S.Pi, M.Si, who carried out the activities in the Karimunjawa Islands, Jepara Regency. The title of this research is: “Utilization of Solar-Powered Lights as a Supporting System for Fishermen’s Operations in Karimunjawa, Jepara Regency.”

The need for electricity is also a global requirement, not limited to specific regions or types of work. In this era, everyone, regardless of their occupation, requires electricity, including fishermen. One concentrated area of fishermen is in the Karimunjawa islands, Jepara Regency. Typically, Karimunjawa fishermen go out to sea at night, traveling for 1 to 3 days or even up to a week, so they require lighting. The lack of illumination at night disturbs the fishermen, both on board and during fish landing. Recognizing this issue, a community service activity was conducted in the Karimunjawa islands, including providing solar-powered lamps from August 25th to 27th, 2024.
